Biodegradability? We’ve got it in the bag. Our 13-gallon kitchen trash bags are high-quality, industrial-strength, and biodegradable in a landfill environment in 8-12 years, which is where 91% of your trash ends up.

The first of its kind, BioNatur Plastic uses an organic polymer that attracts naturally occurring anaerobic bacteria in the landfill and allows them to break down large plastic molecules into smaller organic molecules that bacteria recognize as food, such as inert humus, gasses, and water. This process repeats until it is fully biodegraded, typically in 8-12 years, with the creation of zero microplastics.

What is biodegradable?

Theoretically, any material made up of organic compounds is biodegradable. No matter how long it takes, the carbon-based material will inevitably decay into carbon dioxide and water via microbial respiration.

BioNatur Plastic uses an organic enzyme to attract naturally occurring anaerobic bacteria in the landfill to digest the enzymes and break down the large plastic polymer molecules into smaller organic molecules that the bacteria then recognize as food. They then digest these smaller molecules and continue the process until the plastic is fully biodegraded, typically in 8-12 years. If you read that “biodegradable means microplastics,” they are wrong.

What about compostable?

Our bags are not made for composting. Compostable materials, like other biodegradable materials, are broken down by microorganisms but with a key difference: they must be disposed of in a composter with high oxygen content, compostable materials are digested by a different type of bacteria that needs oxygen to survive.

Commercially produced compostable products (such as the compostable cutlery, cups and plates used by many restaurants) need to be sent to an industrial composting facility in order to biodegrade, where adequate conditions (such as temperature, humidity, etc.) are maintained. They will not break down in a home compost pile or a landfill.

My routine is the same just eco-friendly

“I haven’t had to change anything about my routine or habits except now I feel good knowing that I am not hurting this planet with more harmful plastic.”
